There is often confusion, particularly with many beginners in fishing, about what the names on the fishing rods mean and where the differences lie. A fishing rod is a fishing rod, isn't it? Unfortunately, it's not that simple and besides a vast number of brand names, styles and abbreviations, not every fishing rod is suitable for every fish and body of water. Our new blog post on the topic of fishing rod types, to put an end to the confusion.

Fishing Rod Overview - Which Fishing Rod for What?
Let us take a closer look at the various fishing rod styles. In order to fit the fishing rod exactly with the target fish, the fishing technique and the bait we describe the advantages and disadvantages of the fishing rod types.
We also read questions such as: "Which pike fishing rod? "This can't easily be replied, because it all depends on how you want to capture it and how large it is. But in order to get an overview of which fish it's best to select which rod to catch, we've prepared an outline.
Detachable rod
A detachable rod doesn't tell you what casting weight you 're fishing for or which target fish you fish for. It essentially explains only the fishing rod structure. Detachable rods usually have 2-3 sections that are connected into each other. Tiny coarse fish rods or big predator rods are available.
Telescopic Rod
The key reason why you fish with a best telescopic rod or buy one is the limited size of the box. The telescopic rod design does not consist of many sections, as with the plug-in rod, which has to be connected into one another first.
It also consists of many parts, but when removed, these parts of various sizes are already incorporated into each other and can be moved in such a way that the rod is just as large as the first main part.
The assembly does not take up much room and is rapidly completed. It is important that you really take apart the sections of the telescope, otherwise the rod isn't stable. Additionally, the extension and retraction load the rings. With the cheap to standard versions the motion of the fishing rods is considerably worse than with detachable rods.
The wide distance between the rings causes much tension when casting and battling for the thread. The weight is also significantly higher in most situations than the detachable rod's.

Bolognese Rod
Strictly speaking, bolognese rods are also a type of pole rod (the difference being that they have rings). They come in various models. Models exist as long rod and telescopic rod. Normal length is between 400 and 800 cm-5-30 grams of casting weight.
For the Bolognese rod the very sensitive tip of the rod and the solid backbone is excellent. The Bolognese rod is ringed and usually has the holder of a folding reel. The lighter rods are used for coarse fishing, including arbors, roaches, rudds and small carp. It is also possible to use heavy models for perch and pikeperch fishing.
Due to its flexibility the Bolognese rod is very common, but the short transport duration is also unsurpassable. When removed, a Bolognese rod is only 120 cm long with a length of 7 metres. It is recommendable for both experts and beginners.
For fishing with the Bolognese rod an appropriate stationary reel (1000 to 2500) is used. One potential fishing strategy, like using a fish line, is to place the bait directly underneath the tip of the reel.
Boat Rod
The 50 lbs boat rods are the best choice for fishing at great depth from a boat or for large game fishing. Characteristic is the double leg rings and handle made from silicone rubber. The boat rods, at 210-270 cm, are not especially long.
The boat rod curve lies between 12 and 130 lbs. There is also an inline version of the fishing rod that directs the line in the blank and thus reduces the chance of a wig dramatically. However, you get problems with the frost in the cold season of the year, because the proper line run is blocked.
There are salt water and fresh water boat rods which target different fish types. As a troll angler you can go in fresh water for pikeperch, catfish and pike. The word boat rod is commonly used, and can be a pil rod or spinning rod, for example.
So from the port, you can hunt cod or the fast pollack with a saltwater port line. You have the option of adding a waist belt with a cross-termination. So in the exuberant search for halibut, ling and broad cod you do not go overboard.
Surf Rod
Surf rods have a massive range, so you can throw enough distance and even meet the target fish. Typically, 390 to 420 cm. They are also very stable because, particularly when casting, they have to cope with casting weights of 100–250 g.
Hence surf rod's motion is semi-parabolic. Here you can get amazing throws of up to 100 meters. In addition to the length, the very broad ring diameter and the small distance between the guide ring and roller holder are a distinguishing feature. Without incident, the fishing line slips off the reel. Of course, our blog also includes more detail on surf fishing. Check our surf fishing rod and reel combo guide here.
Ice Rod
The ice fishing rod that looks weird is also named pimple. Since you're holding out at a tiny ice hole here, you don't need a long fishing rod to reach great casting distances. The length is between 30 and 50 cm, and the handle can be either covered with cork or plastic. The rod 's fine tip promptly indicates each bite.
Models are available, with and without a roller. Also known as axle rollers, or rollers Nottingham. Special models of fishing rods are available which have a large tip loop. This is for avoiding freezing of the fishing line. Other forms of rods can, in principle, also be used for ice fishing. In our relevant ice fishing post, you can learn everything you need to know.
Feeder Rod
Feeder rods are special fisheries which are constructed from feeders. Here you fish with an extra feed basket at the bottom of the lake. You can fish directly with the right feeder line, from the small bleak to the massive carp.
The tip is highly versatile and receptive. It is normal for the tip to be exchanged regardless of whether it is a telescopic rod or a detachable rod, and tips of various strengths are included with the purchase.
Light feeder rods are used in flowing waters, heavy versions are often used in stronger winds, and large water bodies. Of course, the casting weight also varies. The scale here goes from UL Ultralight to UH Ultra heavy, where you can cast casting weights of up to 200 g easily with a strong feeder tube.
The rods can reach more than 400 cm. Also there are unique versions like the multi feeder which has a swing top.
Fly Rod
One can clearly differentiate the appearance of a fly rod from other forms of fishing rod. Typically, the fly rods are two-part detachable rods but the mount on the reel looks somewhat different. The reel seat is in the rod end and not in the handle area. The holder is a little higher up than with strong two-hand rods.
The perfect fly rod is suited to your own style and is as light as possible because you're constantly moving it. But the fly reel still needs to fit exactly. Hence the weight of the line or the AFTMA class can be found on the fishing rod.
The majority of manufacturers of fly rods give the weight in oz. Lengths are given in inches and ft. If the fly rod says 8'9, then the fly rod is 8 feet long and 9 inches high. If you are interested in fly fishing and want to find out more about the line courses, you will find it in the article fly fishing for beginners.
Ground Rod
The ground rod already reveals in its name what you intend to do with it. The ground rod is available as a detachable rod and a telescopic rod. The ground rods are often common all-round rods that are used to catch carp, bream, pike perch and pike. Basically, you can catch any fish with the right bottom rod, from A for eel to Z for pike perch.
Whether as a ground rod for carp in summer or as a stationary rod for pike with bait fish in winter, a good ground rod is fun. A tip action or a semi-parabolic action is typical. Telescopic fiberglass blanks and especially those of the detachable rods are extremely robust and almost indestructible. Here you can also come across a stone pack as an obstacle .
Jig Rod
The jig rod is essentially a special design of the spinning rod for fishing with a twister. You get especially good control over the bait via a tip action.
Carp rod
In the case of carp rods, there is again a difference between telescopic rods and detachable rods, which are two or three parts. The length of the rod is 280–400 cm. Characteristic of this is a very long section of the handle, after all you want to throw hard.
A successful measuring curve is 1.5-3.5 lbs. A very thin carp rod used in still water has 1.5 lbs, and stiffer rods have 3.5 lbs for fishing in currents. The fishing rod 's movement is semi-parabolic, or with a solid backbone in the middle. More information can be found in our Carp Fishing post.
Match Rod
The unique three-part rods are used for precise fishing with the float for coarse fish in match fishery. They are the ultimate of float fishing. Match rods are very long and are 370-420 cm long. The match rod has many extremely tiny rings.
The Rod 's action depends on the target fish's size. Small fish make a rod useful with a tip action, larger species like tench or bream are suitable candidates for parabolic and semi-parabolic match rods.
The contrast to the pole is that a reel is used to fish, so you have ample reserves on the line and the bait can also be put in more remote areas. The length and weight of the casting are important when selecting a match pin.
Float Rod
Of course, there are also special rods for float fishing, which usually have a much softer action. This is because you'll be able to cast light and good bait. Especially important is the right length of line, since pose assemblies can be very long. Float rods for example start from 300 cm upwards. Looking for a solid rod if you float on big fish and poisonous fish.
Spinning Rod
One of my favorites is spinning rod. I use a removable rod but it's available as a telescopic rod as well. Make sure the rod is strong, all the time after all you've got it in your hand and you have to move it a lot.
Quality and workmanship are of course also at the forefront. The rings should be given special attention, since they are very stressed and sometimes not well made with cheap rods. Spinning rods are lightweight and strong. You can also have a look our spinning fishing guide detail post.
The light versions are mostly up to 240 cm long and weigh up to 20 g in casting. The rod that spins is either parabolic or semi-parabolic. These rods can be fished at a medium distance of up to around 30 metres.
On the other hand, large spinning rods are considerably longer, at 270-330 cm. Even the casting weight is considerably higher at up to 80 g. Most rods with fast spins are semi-parabolic. Heavy spinning rods are the perfect companion for large and pike juvenile fish hunts.
Pole
Confusion also occurs over the difference between a pole. It's also essentially pole except the pole isn't ringed. Most anglers go along with the pole for non-coarse trout. An exception to this is tip fishing, where they use an artificial stream.
Poles have an incredible length of up to 16 m, roach, aland, rudd, and bream are common target species. The material is plastic and carbon fiber so long rods don't get too hard.
The line at the pole must be attached to the rod 's tip. For this reason, a swivel or a rubber band is used. This prevents fleeing fish. They come as plug-in or telescopic rods. Typically, only accessible up to 10 m of telescopic poles. You can position the bait very precisely at a great distance with the pole.
A detachable rod has the advantage that you can use lines that are shorter than the bar, too. You literally remove the lower parts in case of a bite. The shorter the line, the more specifically the bait can be set. Any relevant details can be found under stipple fish, as well as tips and tricks.

Conclusion
You don't need to get your own fishing rod for each target fish as a beginner and particularly you shouldn't start with the most expensive model. It is necessary to note, however, that there is no single rod which is suitable for any fishing technique. You should then gain some knowledge, and then take an estimated course.
Usually a trip to the nearby fishing shop helps with the decision. You can pick up the fishing rod styles there, and mount a reel. You are also receiving recommendations from experts.
